Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions?
We’ve got answers to the most frequently asked questions.
What is IPL?
IPL is an abbreviation for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a scattered beam of light targeting the darkest, thickest area of pigment in the hair shaft – located at its root. The melanin in this area absorbs the light and heat thereby halting hair
growth. For more information on IPL please check out my blog posted in Aesthetic Health Corner.
How many treatments will be needed?
You can expect at least 6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks or 8-10 weeks apart depending on the area of the body to be treated. The amount of treatments will vary from person to person depending on certain factors such as the amount,
thickness, color of hair and skin, hormone levels and hair growth cycles. Darker hair is more easily treated, as it contains more melanin. People are often surprised to notice the benefits after just one treatment.
What does the treatment feel like?
You may feel a pinch that is noticed more in the areas where the hair is thicker and darker. There is a cooling plate surrounding the hand-piece and cool water-soluble ultrasound gel is used to provide the treatment. The two together both make for a more comfortable experience.
How long does each treatment session of IPL hair removal take?
Your initial consultation will take approximately 15-20 minutes. However, depending on the area being treated will determine the amount of time each treatment session will take. For example, small areas like underarms will take
approximately 10 minutes and larger areas like legs or back will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
What should I do for hair removal in between my sessions?
You will only shave the areas to be treated. Waxing and other epilations will stimulate new hair growth and the opportunity for targeting the hair during its active growth cycle when treatment is most effective will be lost.
Does IPL work on darker skin?
Yes! IPL hair removal is successful for all skin types.
What is an IPL Photo-facial like?
An IPL photo facial is a non-invasive treatment using light and heat to correct more challenging skin conditions like sun or environmental damage, uneven skin tone, dark spots, pigmentation, redness or rosacea, fine lines, acne, and facial spider veins.
Does a Photo-facial hurt?
The feeling is comparable to how a hair tie feels when snapped against skin, and is described as very tolerable. Similar to the hand-piece used for IPL hair removal, this one has a surrounding cooling plate and uses a cool water-soluble
gel making this treatment more comfortable and well worth the corrective benefits your skin will receive.
What is IV Therapy and what are the benefits?
IV Therapy is a way of administering vitamins, minerals and amino acids directly into the blood stream. The benefits include boosting energy, hydration, supporting immune function, helping the body deal with stress more efficiently, and improving sleep and mood.
Do Nutritional Injections or IV Infusions hurt?
This depends on the individual’s pain tolerance and nutrition being injected, but typically the injections are described as tolerable, “not bad”, “I didn’t even notice”. The initiation of the IV Therapy feels like a “pin prick or poke”.
How often should I have nutritional injections or IV infusions?
The frequency depends on the individual, their level of deficiency, lifestyle and health goals. It is always good to be aware of your individual health and discuss any concerns with your practitioner.
